Terms of Use
Last updated 16 September 2026
These terms apply to your use of the Tally app. Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement also applies to apps downloaded from the App Store; where these terms and that agreement conflict, that agreement governs.
What Tally does
Tally reads a restaurant check, helps you divide it, and reconciles the shares to the exact cent. It is a calculator and a coordination tool. It does not move money, process payments, or handle your card.
Check your own numbers
TALLY does not guarantee the accuracy of scanned receipt information or calculations. You are responsible for reviewing and confirming all items, charges, tips, and totals before relying on them for payment or settlement. TALLY is not responsible for underpayments, overpayments, payment disputes, or losses resulting from inaccurate or unverified receipt information.
You accept this acknowledgment when you create a Tally account, and the version you accepted is recorded with your account. The current version is 2026-09-16. If it changes materially, Tally asks again rather than treating your earlier acceptance as covering the new text.
Receipt scanning is automated and can misread a printed or handwritten line. Tally shows you every line so you can correct it before splitting, and this review step exists precisely because the scan is not authoritative. Tally is provided as-is, without warranty, and we are not liable for amounts you settle between yourselves.
Subscription
Tally includes your first three checks. A check counts as one of them when you confirm how it is being split, and only once for that check: changing the split method afterwards, sharing it, or coming back to it does not count again. Scanning, reviewing, correcting and abandoning a check count for nothing. After the three are used, confirming a split on a new check requires Tally Pro, an auto-renewable subscription at $4.99 per month. Guests you invite never pay, and joining someone else’s check — in a browser or in the app — is always free and never uses up your included checks.
The count of checks you have hosted is kept with your account and on your iPhone, so it is not reset by signing out, reinstalling, or deleting an account and creating another.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Accounts
Hosting a check needs a Tally account, created with Sign in with Apple. The account recognizes you as the host of your own checks, records that you accepted the acknowledgment above, and holds how many of the included checks you have used. It holds no receipts, no names and no check contents.
Joining a check needs no account. A guest opens the link or types the code, claims their items and is done, in a browser or in the app, with nothing to install and nothing to sign in to.
You can see exactly what your account holds, and delete it, on the Account data screen in the app. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, and cancelling a subscription does not delete your account; each is managed where it lives.
Acceptable use
Do not use Tally to break the law, to misrepresent what someone owes, or to attempt to access checks that were not shared with you. Claim links and guest codes are keys: treat each one like a key, and share it only with the person it was created for.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
